Nutrients, Nutrients, Nutrients!
At Eatiful we often don’t tell people what to eat, and we never tell people what not to eat. Why? Because we’re all different, and while one set of foods may be optimal for you, it may not work for me. Time, sleep, activity, physiology, biology, culture, habits, cost, and taste all contribute to our food needs and choices. We believe food freedom is paramount on any health journey.
So why are we talking about nutrients?
While we will never tell anyone what not to eat, there are some things we all need in our diets. Nutrients are often lacking if we restrict our food in any way. Many people we know - who are using weight loss injections - to lose weight lose their appetite to the extent that they eat very little food. And even some people on Eatiful have told us that as they learn to eat a smaller volume of food, they are concerned they're not getting all the right nutrients.
Nutrients are vital for us all, especially anyone wanting to feel healthy and vibrant, or heal their bodies in any way. Plus nutrients make us feel great mentally. We need them! So without giving you any rules, we want to offer a tip on what every day should include - just to help you feel on top of your game.
1. Protein - helps preserve muscle mass during weight loss and keeps you fuller for longer. Include any protein - eggs, yogurt, chicken, tofu, lentils, meat or fish.
2. Fibre - supports digestion, keeps your blood sugar stable, and helps prevent constipation. Include vegetables, berries, oats, beans, or whole grains.
3. Vitamins and minerals - foods rich in nutrients like dark leafy greens, avocado, nuts, seeds, and colourful fruits and vegetables really pack in the nutrients so be sure to include them.
And if you’re not able to pack in the nutrients from food, consider a supplement to boost key nutrients like iron, calcium, B12, or vitamin D. A daily multivitamin may help.
